Annapolis historic district homes for sale can be found in a variety of price ranges and sizes, and these houses, townhomes, and condos offer numerous benefits beyond the properties themselves.

Being close to Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Annapolis residents enjoy all the resources that those cities provide.  At the same time, Annapolis is a small historic town sited on the Severn River on the shore of the Chesapeake Bay, with a rich cultural heritage and lively activities.   Homes in the Historic District of Annapolis offer numerous benefits beyond the properties themselves.

Annapolis is the state capital of Maryland, home to the United States Naval Academy and St. Johns College, the National Sailing Hall of Fame, and more.  Annapolis is known as the “Sailing Capital of America.”

The Colonial Annapolis Historic District was created as a National Historic Landmark in 1965 and was expanded in 1984.  Annapolis was capital of both the Colony and the State, and one of the first planned cities in colonial America. Many elements of the original town plan, surveyed in 1695, and about 120 18th-century buildings remain.

In terms of individually listed National Historic Landmarks and other Registered Historic Places, the original area includes the Maryland Statehouse and Hammond-Harwood House, the increase includes Artisan's House, Brice House, John Callahan House, and Chase-Lloyd House.  It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965.

In 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported a population of 35,838 (not including 4,264 residents at the Naval Academy or students at St. John’s College). More than 4.5 million people visit Annapolis each year.

Annapolis is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The county harkens back to the 1600’s, and is very closely tied to the water as it borders on the Chesapeake Bay. In fact, the county has 437 miles of waterfront. The county is also blessed with historical sites in abundance.

From Annapolis, it is easy to reach Washington, DC, Baltimore, Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), or almost any destination in the Washington, DC, metro area.
